We have all entered uncertain and anxiety-provoking times. There is now much unknown and incongruence in our lives. It This has required an enormous shift in lifestyle for nearly all of us.

School creates predictability. During the time of school closure we lost that predictability and structure which helped to create a feeling of safety. At times when schools might be closed to a bubble or pupils are self-isolating, we we want to create a routine with our families, to help reduce the sense of threat that the unknown can bring.

We recommend at the beginning of each day, as a family, talk about the schedule for the day – talk about what you’re going to do in the day, how you’re going to plan the day.

We suggest proactively filling each day with regulation activities – e.g. including regular movement as part of routine/schedule – build in dance parties – maybe find online some 5 minute workout videos – go for walks – build them into the day.  Have a look at the suggestions in the links below.

Safetynet have produced a special edition of their newsletter to reflect the challenging times that we find ourselves in. It includes info about Covid 19, home schooling and local services available.

In response to the coronavirus epidemic, Mentally Healthy Schools have produced an extremely useful resource including a variety of resources that can be used to ensure pupil mental health and wellbeing is being maintained during this uncertain time.  This includes resources for school staff.

 This online tool offers a free, personalised action plan, approved by the NHS, providing specific advice for those currently looking after young people or working from home.

This 20 minute seated exercise is ideal for anyone working from home or to support individuals to take an active break.
