Maths Intent
Our intent in maths at Our Lady of Lourdes is as follows:
To Live: At Our Lady of Lourdes we want to encourage children to be lifelong mathematicians. We believe that Maths allows children to better make sense of the world around them; enabling them to see and understand pattern between mathematics and everyday life.
To Love: Through our creative and rich maths curriculum, we intend to foster the curiosity of our children enabling them to become competent and independent mathematicians: demonstrating a love of number and problem solving.
To Learn: Adopting a mastery approach: an inclusive method based on the belief that all children can achieve; we teach a rich, balanced and progressive curriculum using Maths to reason, problem solve and develop fluent conceptual understanding in each area. Children are encouraged to be resilient learners, relishing challenge and responding positively to teachers’ high expectations. They work together, explore together and succeed together.
