Supporting Young Carers at Our Lady of Lourdes

Over the next few weeks KS2 classes will be having a visit from the Young Carers Project, part of the Carers Centre for Brighton and Hove. They work with local schools to identify and support young carers.  During the visit pupils will learn about what it means to be a young carer and how they can access support through the project. Our staff will also be attending training on how to identify and support pupils who have a caring role.

A young carer is a child under 18 who regularly helps to look after, or is impacted by, a family member who has a disability, health condition or substance misuse issue. Their responsibilities might involve practical tasks, physical care, personal care, managing medication or providing emotional support to the cared for person. Often children and their families do not realise they are young carers or that they can access help and support. There are many young carers in Brighton & Hove and our work with the Young Carers Project will help to identify and support pupils at our school who have a caring role. In the meantime if you would like to know more please contact Zoe Garbarz at the school
